This show is much more than just a theatrical event... it’s an immersive experience.

Based on real events, we enact the story of Ray Van Buren Jackson and his 8 victims whose lives he brought to an untimely and tragic end.  Great wine, tasty nosh, a fab acting crew, and hip surroundings.

There stalked a predator among the primitive young towns on the Oregon High Desert. Hidden behind a veil of legitimacy, he was never caught, never arrested and only ever slightly suspected of his horrific crimes. Only now, looking through the dusty lens of history, does a grim picture come together... a picture of Oregon's first serial killer.

Barrel Tasting

11/1/2024

Evening Barrel Tasting
6:00pm to 8:30pm - doors open at 5:30pm
Picture
A rare one on one experience tasting wine from barrels with our winemaker. This year's annual barrel tasting theme will be "young" and "seasoned."
We use the word seasoned rather than old because, at 60, our winemaker doesn't agree with the connotations that go with that word.
The contrasting barrels being tasted this year will be a 2023 Petit Verdot blend, and a 2018 Cab Franc - Merlot blend.

    • Followed by two more new releases
      • Blanco 2020 - a more serious version of our Blanco blend that has significantly more Chardonnay in the blend, barrel aged to a very well balanced full bodied Chardonnay blended with Chenin Blanc and Sauvignon Blanc.

  • Each of the six wines will be paired with a unique cheese to enhance the experience.
  • There will not be a dinner, so the prudent advice would be to arrive already having had your dinner.

Barrel head pictured above:  A new, 2024 barrel branded with our Heritage Series label.  The Coat of Arms of the winemaker's mother's family - Lattavo, combined with the Coat of Arms of the winemaker's wife's (Gina's) family - Melchior.  The combination is the Maragas family Coat of Arms.   Note that the new oak wood in this barrel, although coopered overseas, was sourced in the great state of Ohio.  That's excellent tighter grained American oak.

Not familiar with the performance, read on!  “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving, performed by candlelight in its entirety by actor and orator Alastair Morley Jaques.

The story follows the newly appointed schoolmaster of Sleepy Hollow, Ichabod Crane. One dreary autumn night, Ichabod hears the tale of a ghost of a decapitated Hessian soldier doomed to roam the nearby countryside with a Jack-o-lantern for a head! Later, devastated after a failed marriage proposal, Ichabod experiences the phantom first hand when he’s knocked off his horse by a flaming pumpkin. The notorious ghost known as The Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow is no children’s myth!

The Legend of Sleepy Hollow was first published in 1820 and, along with Rip Van Winkle, and is one of the first examples of enduring American fiction.
The dramatic recitation lasts 75 minutes without an intermission

Alastair Morley Jaques is an actor, orator and sexton who lives in a church bell tower in Portland, Oregon. He is known for his portrayals of Edgar Allan Poe over the past decade and his many appearances in Shakespeare’s plays all across the Pacific Northwest. He is ecstatic to return to Chicago after a sold out run of “An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe” last spooky season.
